Bertrand Duby, bass soloist for Mozart’s Requiem on the 27th of November 2016
Bertrand Duby started off in music by learning to play the piano. Then, while also studying to be an engineer he discovered the world of the lyrical arts and his bass voice that led him to the Bordeaux Conservatory and the class of Maryse Castets in 2009. He also showed a very keen interest in choral conducting and completed a 3-year course with Eduardo Lopes. He has been a member of the Baroque Vocal Ensemble “Les Ornements” since it was first created, under the direction of Alexis Duffaure. In the world of opera, Bertrand Duby began his career as a soloist with the Opéra Bastide Company performing the roles of Zuniga then Sarastro (directed by Marc Trautman) in 2014. He sang the roles of Alcindoro and Benoît in La Bohème with the Escales Lyriques, Seneca in Monteverdi’s Incornazione de Poppea in Ghent conducted by Florian Heyerick, and Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni with the Opéra Ossia Company. In his sacred music repertoire, he has been a soloist in Gounod’s Solemn Mass, cantata BWV140, the Missa Brevis K140 and Durante’s Magnificat. Since September 2014, Bertrand Duby has been studying at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Belgium in the vocal section directed by José van Dam.
