Bastien Penas will be conducting Mozart’s Requiem on the 27th of November 2016
Born in 1993, Bastien Penas began learning the trumpet at the age of 7 at the Municipal Academy of Mérignac in the class run by Patrick Bajon. In 2008 he was admitted to the class of Jean-François Dion at the Bordeaux Regional Conservatory. After passing his baccalaureate (letters) in 2011 at the Lycée Montaigne, he won admission to the Conservatory of Bordeaux and the class of Orchestral Conducting directed by Roberto Gatto. Bastien Penas takes a keen interest in lyrical singing and studied for 2 years with Maryse Castets. At the same time as his training to become a conductor, he is also studying analysis with Etienne Rolin and the piano with Sylvie Janvier. Encouraged by Martine Marcuz, he was introduced to Salvatore Caputo, choir master at the Opéra de Bordeaux and now attends the choir’s rehearsals. During his studies, Bastien Penas has covered a wide symphonic repertoire, from Mozart to Debussy to Ravel, but also the lyrical repertoire (Puccini, Verdi) and contemporary works (Boulez). In February 2016, he took part in the first edition of the Orchestral Choir Festival in liaison with the “Opéra et Orchestre National de Bordeaux Aquitaine”, where he conducted Sally Galet’s About Animals, a piece for a children’s choir and orchestra. With these studies behind him, Bastien Penas is preparing entrance examinations for admission to German and Austrian universities.
