Kup Taldea in concert the 18th and 19th of June 2016
Kup Taldea was founded in May 2003, an initiative led by a group of students from the choral conducting class of Gabriel Baltès at the Centre Supérieur de Musique du Pays Basque Espagnol in San Sebastian. These young musicians with extremely advanced musical schooling and already wide-ranging experience in choral singing, are always keen to pitch into a repertoire that is both challenging and eclectic. Under the direction of founding conductor Gabriel Baltès, Kup Taldea perform regularly not only in Spain but also in France and Luxembourg.
An up-and-coming choir…
The group recorded its first CD in 2007. Kup Taldea has won a string of awards: third prize in the folklore category at the International Contest of Tolosa in 2008, first prize (shared with the choir Zbor Komorni Ave) at the international contest of Maribor (Slovenia) in 2009, then first prize in the mixed choir category, first prize in the Open Programme category and the “Grand Prix de la Ville de Tours” at the Tours International Contest in 2010.
Gabriel Baltès
A music teacher until 2007, Gabriel Baltès completed the choral conducting course run by Pierre CAO before he himself became a facilitator organizing training courses for choir masters in France (within the “A Coeur Joie” choral singing movement) and in Spain at summer courses organized by the University of the Balearic Islands. He is currently a teacher of choral conducting at the “Centro superior de música del Pais vasco” in San Sebastian, Spain.
